Tight end Mike Dunn still wants to be a Bulldog

Bakersfield C. C. tight end Mike Dunn is JCGridiron's No. 5 ranked tight end in the country.
He is a great pickup for the Bulldogs, but unlike the 24 other Fresno State commits that faxed in their National Letters of Intent on Wednesday, Dunn could only watch it all happen on Twitter.

"I am still committed to Fresno State," Dunn explained. "But I just need to get my grades up."
Dunn did not have the necessary units to pass the NCAA clearinghouse. He is taking a heavy class load right now and has signed up for nine more units of summer school.
"I need like 16 units to get my AA degree," Dunn said. "That way I will be able to sign. I should be able [to enroll] sometime in July."
Despite the academic issues, the Fresno State coaching staff still wants Dunn to be a Bulldog.
"They told me to get my grades up and that they really want me."
Dunn is used to playing in a wide-open offense and he should fit in nicely with the new Fresno State attack.
"I am a flexible tight end because I play wideout too," he said. "I can do a little of everything and I am mainly a receiving tight end, but I am working on my blocking and getting better at that.
"I will be doing the same stuff [at Fresno State] that we do here at Bakersfield which is like tight ends flanked out on third and long and stuff like that."
In a strange recruiting twist, Dunn is a Bulldog commit despite having never visited Fresno State.
"I couldn't make an official visit because of my grades," he said. "My transcripts are just not that good right now."
Dunn does have a close friend enrolled on campus, his former quarterback at Bakersfield Brian Burrell.
"He is a good player," Dunn said. "After our season last year we immediately started throwing and didn't even take a break. Even now when he came on a little break from Fresno he wanted to throw. He is always down to get better and wants to throw routes with me and stuff like that."
