"I know little things about Fresno State," Hoyd said. "I went to the Fresno State-Ole Miss game in 2011. The Bulldogs played really well, but Ole Miss came out with the win.
"My dad went to Ole Miss, so he wanted to go to the game and Fresno State's stadium was very beautiful, very beautiful."
One member of the Bulldog's incoming class is tight with Hoyd.
"The corner they just signed this year, Treshon Broughton, is like a brother to me," he said. "He is going to be attending Fresno State for the 2013 season and he is hoping for a great season. I wish him well.
"I have talked to Fresno State's coaches and they like me. They said with Treshon going there, 'we want to see if we can get you and we feel we have a chance to get you because pretty much, your best friend is coming.'
"So yeah, I have interest in Fresno State. Pretty much family already there, but I want to see what else holds for me. I do like Fresno State."
Even though Hoyd currently holds seven offers, he doesn't have any favorites.
"I am very open," Hoyd said. "It's still early, I am still in my junior year. May hasn't even gotten here, but it is right around the corner though."
What is Hoyd looking for is a college?
"I would want to fall in love with the school," Hoyd said. "Just because I may have heard about a school like USC, I may not like the campus or things like that.
"I'm just listening to the coaches and talking to them. When I get a chance to go see the campus I could truly fall in love with the school.
"Education is important. Most likely I will be majoring in electrical engineering. Getting a full ride education, you have to really take advantage of it. Getting to the league, you can do that from any school, you just need film, but that education, getting that degree is hard to come by."
At this point in Hoyd's recruitment, he doesn't have a time limit for decision. He is simply going to take it as it comes.
"If I get my school that I like before the season, it would be all great," Hoyd said. "It would be nice knowing going into the season that I would have a home to go to after the season.
"I'm pretty much open. It could be before my senior year or it could even be signing day."
Playing away from home is not going to be a problem for Hoyd.
"I don't mind getting out of town," Hoyd said. "I really want to experience something different. I wouldn't mind playing close to home, but I wouldn't mind going away from home either.
"I'm going to do right for myself, growing up becoming a young man and things like that. Wherever I fit, I fit."
Hoyd will be attending the Ole Miss Camp this summer and he could end up taking trips to Kentucky and Mississippi State. All three schools want to see him up close and see a little more film.
Hoyd has a long body and has a high ceiling. He could easily grow more and gain weight. He is just hitting his stride as a football player and the best is yet to come. He also becoming a team leader and has good football bloodlines. His dad played for Ole Miss and was a starter for two years.
As a junior, Hoyd was an all-league selection after accounting for 96 tackles, four forced fumbles, four pass deflections, two interceptions and two sacks.
