Bulldogs are ranked in both polls
Following Fresno State's thrilling Friday night victory over Boise State, the Bulldogs continue to pick up attention from the national media. Tim DeRuyter's squad is now ranked in both major polls, setting the table for a run at a BCS Bowl Game.
The Bulldogs had lost seven-straight to the archrival Broncos and the pure elation following the victory was natural. But the true impact of the win is just starting to become clear.
It propelled quarterback Derek Carr into the limelight and he did not disappoint the national television audience. Throwing for 460 yards and four touchdowns allowed the school to launch an official Heisman Trophy Campaign for the fifth-year senior.
The win also ensured that Fresno State would be ranked in the top-25 of both major polls, the Associated Press poll and the USA Today coaches poll.
The Bulldogs were ranked No. 25 in the coaches poll last week following some upsets and the cancelled game against Colorado. This week the 'Dogs jumped up two spots and the USA Today said they were a team with its stock on the rise.
In the Associated Press poll only one new team debuted this weekend and that team was the Bulldogs. They entered the poll at No. 25 despite not a lot of movement in front of them.
Overall, it was a good week for Fresno State to jump into the rankings. Not only did the Friday night kickoff ensure no competition, overall it was a weak college football schedule and the Bulldogs played in the most exciting, memorable game of the weekend.
If Tim DeRuyter and his troops can navigate a very manageable schedule going forward, the only place for the Bulldogs to go from here is up.
