Morris committed to UCLA, but looking around
SAN ANTONIO -- Memphis (Tenn.) East offensive tackle Christian Morris reaffirmed his commitment to UCLA earlier this month, but the 6-foot-6, 293-pound lineman has reconsidered and is now planning additional official visits.
"I am taking an official visit to Tennessee with the new coaching staff," Morris said. "They have been recruiting me ever since they were at Cincinnati. They like everything about me and said they don't care about the previous staff, that they are the new staff so they are going to recruit me harder. Tennessee is not too far away from home and not too close."
Another new team to enter the race for Morris is Oklahoma, and the four-star said it is "very likely," he will officially visit Norman.
"They probably will get an official visit after Tennessee," Morris said. "They are still recruiting me. I'd just like to check out their campus style and academics."
Despite the expected trips to Tennessee and Oklahoma, Morris said he is 97 percent committed to UCLA and has OK'd his official visit plans with the Bruins coaching staff.
"They said they were cool with it," Morris said. "I talked to them about that and said it is good I want to take some visits because a lot of kids don't get that chance." Morris made his commitment to UCLA in July, and followed it up with an official visit to Los Angeles in November.
"UCLA is a great school, great coaching staff, great campus life, great stadium environment -- I like everything about UCLA," Morris said. "I went on an unofficial to UCLA visit when I was out there for the B2G Elite Camp and when I was on campus I loved everything."
Morris considered the football, academic and social aspects when making his original commitment, and felt UCLA hit on all three points.
"All three of those are good aspects (at UCLA)," Morris said. "Academics are really my main focus and they have a Respiratory Therapy (major)." Respiratory Therapy is Morris' planned major in college and he expects to attend graduate school to complete his schooling in the discipline. Morris carries a 3.2 GPA in the classroom.
