Dogs go wire to wire in 65-55 win against Idaho

Fresno State went wire to wire in their 65-55 victory over the Idaho Vandals Thursday night at the Save Mart Center.

"We've had close ball games all year long, we've competed really hard and we knew tonight's contest was going to be a tough one for us," first-year Bulldogs head coach Rodney Terry said. "We came out tonight and had tremendous energy and effort. I thought we really got after it and executed our game plan for the better part of the game."

Jerry Brown led the Bulldogs with 14 points while also pulling down rebounds his first career double double.

Tyler Johnson equaled a career high with a game-best 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help Fresno State (10-14, 2-6 Western Athletic) snap a three-game setback skid and win their first against the Vandals in the past nine tries.

The Bulldogs' Kevin Foster and Garrett Johnson each added nine points and Kevin Olekaibe chipped in seven to lead the team to convert 50 percent (22-44) of its field goal attempts.

Fresno State led by 16 points at halftime thanks in large part to their 63.6 percent shooting in the first half and G. Johnson's 3-point halftime buzzer beater to cap the `Dogs strong start.

"Gotta give Fresno State some credit - I thought they were very physical around the basket tonight," fourth-year Idaho head coach Don Verlin said after his first loss to the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs return to the court Saturday as they honor the Heroes of the Central Valley on Heroes night.

The will host the Utah State Aggies.
