Five-Star Academy hits Virginia

MORE: Five-Star Academies come to California | Scouting the Nation 2010

HIGHLAND SPRINGS, Va. -- For the third time, the Rivals.com Five Star Academy will be in the Richmond, Va., area as Highland Springs High School hosts the event this Saturday. And as usual, some of the top prospects from the Richmond area as well as from Northern Virginia and Maryland/D.C. will be on hand. Players like defensive end Corey Marshall from Diniwiddie, Va., lead a strong group.

Marshall, a 6-foot-0, 242-pounder, has early offers from Virginia Tech, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, East Carolina and others. He'll be joined by some talented teammates including quarterback Chris Hall, a terrific-looking prospect at 6 feet 3 and 219 pounds still searching for his first offer, and wide receiver Trey Gardner, another good-looking specimen at 6-foot-6 and 205 pounds.

Another big name in the area is Harrisonburg, Va. offensive tackle Landon Turner who will also be on hand. Turner, a 6-foot-5, 304-pounder, has early offers from Virginia Tech, Virginia, North Carolina, Stanford, Maryland, West Virginia and others. His teammate, running back Michael Holmes, has an early offer from Virginia Tech. The 6-foot-0, 190-pounder could also be on hand.

Others from Virginia with early offers expected to be on hand include Stafford (Va.) Colonial Forge defensive back Tim Scott, Ashburn (Va.) Stone Bridge defensive end Rob Burns, Sterling (Va.) Dominion running back DeAndre Reaves, Chesterfield (Va.) L.C. Bird athlete Anthony Harris, Lynchburg (Va.) Liberty Christian Academy offensive tackle Grant Jones, Annandale, Va., wide receiver Melvin Robinson and others. Programs such as North Carolina, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, Stanford, Duke, Wake Forest and others have offered the players above.

However, the Maryland/D.C. area will be represented just as well. Washington (D.C.) Ballou teammates Jamar Lewter and Lamonte Clark will be on hand. Lewter, a 6-foot-7, 285-pound offensive tackle who won the Big Man MVP at the Premier Showcase in New Jersey in February, boasts offers from Auburn, Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, Pitt, Rutgers and others. Clark, a 6-foot-3, 296-pound defensive tackle, has offers from Illinois, Kansas State and New Mexico.

They'll be joined from the D.C. area by Dunbar defensive back Vance Roberts and his twin brother Vernard Roberts who have offers from Marshall and Kansas respectively. Waldorf (Md.) North Point linebacker Conner Crowell, who has offers from UConn, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio State, West Virginia and others, is also expected to be on hand as is Frederick (Md.) Thomas Johnson athlete DeAndre Scott who has an offer from Central Michigan.

Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha cornerback Michael Williams, who has a Maryland offer, as well as his teammate Darien Harris, a linebacker with a Syracuse offer, are also expected to be in attendance.

And, as always, there will be plenty of talented underclassmen on hand. Oxon Hill (Md.) Potomac running back Ronald Darby, who has early offers from Maryland and North Carolina, leads a strong group of 2012 prospects while 2013 quarterback Ryan Burns from Ashburn (Va.) Stone Bridge is one to keep an eye on.

The Hampton Roads area will be covered next weekend when Rivals.com hosts a Five Star Academy at Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, Va.
