California CB, Chimes in on Army and his recruiting

San Diego State recently conducted what is called "Elite Day" within their program and part of their recruiting tool. As reported by AztecSportsReport.com ... "this is where a bevy of California prospects visited campus on Sunday -- helped the Aztecs land four in-state pledges within just a few hours of each other.

Charles Okonkwo was one of the visitors this past Sunday and although he enjoyed his visit, he was not ready to pull the trigger, despite the allure of Elite Day at SDSU. "SDSU is really nice ... Wouldn't mind going there," said the Fontana (Calif.) Summit High School cornerback, when speaking with AztecSportsReport.com after his visit.

"Yes, I was down there (SDSU) yesterday with a couple of teammates, but I did not commit there ," confirmed Okonkwo during his conversation with GoBlackKnights.com on Monday.

Ironically, it is one school that has yet to apply the full court press that Okonkwo experienced during his time at SDSU that has caught the cornerback's attention.

"I really haven't talked to Coach Saadat in a while, but I am definitely interested in Army and what they stand for," shared Okonkwo, while yet still expressing his interest and intrigue with the Black Knights and the West Point culture

"I just really like what that stand for and the type of program run. I've never been out there, but playing on the East Coast doesn't really matter to me."

In addition to his offer from Army, the 3-star cornerback currently has offers from Boise St., Fresno St., Nevada, New Mexico, New Mexico St., San Diego St. and Utah State.

Although Okonkwo has yet to take any unofficial or official visits, he indicated that he will be doing so in the very near future. "I actually plan on doing that this month or after the football season," says Okonkwo, who also noted that he and his teammates are gearing up heaving for a run at another state title where they won the California Southern, Eastern (VIII) State Championship and finished with a 13-1 record.

"We are looking solid as a team," he adds. "On defensive, we are actually returning nine starters and our offense looks pretty good as well. On offense we have some returning starters and the O-line is looking pretty good.

This is a team defense that is returning such players as Justin Strong and Jerome Smith, along with Okonkwo.

GoBlackKnights.com will continue to follow Okonkwo's recruiting throughout his senior campaign.
