Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman outside linebacker Robert Stanley committed to the Bulldogs while officially visiting Fresno State over the weekend.
Stanley picked Fresno State over Weber State and hometown favorite UNLV.
"I committed on Sunday, right after the visit," Stanley said. "I have been down there several times before but what I saw this past weekend I had never seen before. It was a new experience and I really enjoyed myself down there.
"I was visualizing being there for four years and I really enjoyed hanging out with the players, seeing the facilities and talking with the coaches. I liked everything about it."
During his junior season Stanley focused on offense where he shined as a tight end. But his focus shifted during his senior season at Bishop Gorman.
"I played mostly linebacker and defensive end my senior year," he said. "I played some tight end my, but as the season went on I was playing mostly defense, just because we were so short on defense and the team needed help there."
At the next level, Stanley will continue on the defensive side of the ball.
"I would like to try some offense, but I prefer playing defense," he said. "Fresno State recruited me as an outside linebacker and they told me they would try me out in fall camp and if I was ready by the season then I would play. But since I am so young they would most likely end up redshirting me."
Stanley was recruited by Fresno State offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Dave Schramm and defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Nick Toth. He is young for a senior football player and he won't even turn 17 until May.
He was joined on his official visit by new Fresno State commits Delvon Hardaway and Darrell Fuery.
Robert's older brother Ronnie Stanley also went to Bishop Gorman and now plays at Notre Dame.
